What do TLD and SLD of a domain name stand for:
A domain name consists of two basic parts: TLD and SLD. TLD stands for "top-level domain" and represents the last part of a domain name in an Internet address. SLD is the abbreviation for "second-level domain" and identifies the part of the domain name that you personally invent and that precedes the TLD. For instance, in the domain name ‘my-best-domain.com’, the TLD is ’.com’ and the SLD is ‘my-best-domain’.
What you can expect from our TLD offerings:
We are offering a variety of domain name TLDs with our web hosting packages belonging to two categories – generic TLDs, including the most popular TLDs, such as .com .net .org, etc.; and specific or country code TLDs, such as .ca, .co.uk, .eu, .com.tw and many more. Some of our TLDs may be offered at a discounted price, so check for our promotions regularly to get your .com, .net, .org, .biz, .us, or .info domain at a very reasonable value. All the TLDs that we offer can be purchased at sign up or later on through the web hosting Control Panel.
What you should keep in mind when choosing your domain name’s TLD:
When choosing your TLD, you should consider the fact that most of the domain extensions, mostly country code TLDs, have particular requirements and restrictions. You can find comprehensive information about the management features and requirements of each TLD in the table below. You should also pay attention to the notes present for some of the domain names, and more particularly, to the special registration conditions applicable to some of them.

FEATURES EXPLANATION:
Registrar-Lock – enables the domain owner to lock his/her domain name to avoid unauthorized, or incidental changes to the domain name.
Transfer – refers to the act of changing the current domain registrar with another. Upon successful completion of the transfer, the new registrar adds 1 year to the domain’s registration period. The domain transfer fee is equal to the one for the domain registration. In some cases, an EPP authorization key, which must be obtained from the current registrar, is required.
Edit WHOIS – allows you to edit the publicly exhibited WHOIS information about the domain name.
|
|
ID Protect – allows you to protect the publicly accessible WHOIS information by replacing it with a fictitious one.
Registration Period – the various TLDs can be registered for different periods.
Single registration/transfer – relates to the price for 1 year of registration/transfer of a given TLD when purchased together with a web hosting plan. One year is the minimum registration period for most of the TLDs. This period is 2 years for the TLDs marked with "*".
Notes – reveals the special requirements for some TLDs and the dedicated Registration Agreements that must also be abided by in addition to the general Registration Agreement. |
Registration Approval
Domain name registration is not instant and needs approval by the .UK registry Nominet.
There is no defined period for approval/rejection of domain registration requests.
Registration Period
The registration period for .UK domain names is 2 years.
Domain Renewal
Renewals are possible for 2-year periods only. A renewal cannot be issued until at least five (5) months
prior to the domain's expiration date and effects of a renewal do not occur instantly.
Example: You register a .UK domain on April 9, 2003, for two years. Then, on April 7, 2005,
you renew the domain for an additional two years. Your domain will then be scheduled to expire on April 9, 2007.
If, however, you do not renew your domain on April 7, 2005, it will be deleted on April 8, 2005.
The reason for this is that Nominet uses a non-real-time email-based system to make status changes in the .UK registry.
The combination of this email-based system and Nominet's policy on renewals means that we will be charged
for a renewal unless the name is deleted (via instructions in an email) prior to the end of the registration period
which is then in effect. As a consequence, if we do not receive your renewal request prior to one-day
before the end of the registration period, the deletion will be processed one-day before the end of the registration period.
Also, all .UK registrations are bound to the Nominet's Dispute Policy, available on the Nominet's home page
that shall be applied instead of the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy.
Domain Deletion
.UK domains, which are not renewed, will be deleted one day before the scheduled expiration date.
WHOIS Management
In order to modify the WHOIS of .UK domain names, you should contact Nominet for assistance.
In addition, you must cover the fees, required by Nominet, for WHOIS modification.
WHOIS / ID Protection
This service in not available for .UK domain names.
Registrar Change / Transfer
The fee that we require for transfer from one domain registrar to ours is different
from the fee needed for modification of the WHOIS, which is considered as formal transfer.

from the fee needed for modification of the WHOIS, which is considered as formal transfer.
Domain Renewal
Domain renewal is possible for 1 year and must be ordered before the expiration date. If a domain name expires, it is removed from our account with our registrar, and becomes available for registration at least 16 days after the date of expiration.
WHOIS / ID Protection
This service in not available for .COM.MX domain names.
Registrar Change / Transfer
It is possible only to transfer .COM.MX domain names away to another registrar, while transfers to us are not supported by our registrar.
Registrant Requirements
.CA domain names can be registered by Canadian citizens, individuals having permanent residency in Canada
and companies under the laws of Canada. Because of this requirement, additional contact details are required
during the registration procedure itself and that is why we have made a separate page as a step of the domain registration process.
This page allows you to choose the correct attribute from the list of options.
WHOIS Management
The registrant cannot change the WHOIS in order to transfer ownership from one person or organization to another -
this can be done through the .CA registry CIRA. However, it is possible to change the registrant's address, phone number
and other contact details by opening a ticket to the Customer Support staff from the Help Center section in the Web Hosting Control Panel.
Example: If a domain is registered to "John Smith" and the registrant wishes to change the address, this is not a problem.
However, if he/she wishes to change the registrant to "Peter Gibson", this is considered as transfer and the registrant must contact the .CA registry
CIRA for assistance.
WHOIS / ID Protection
This service in not available for .CA domain names.
Registrant Requirements
1. A natural person (i) who is a United States citizen, (ii) a permanent resident of the United States of America or any of its possessions or territories, or (iii) whose primary place of domicile is in the United States of America or any of its possessions,
2. An entity or organization that is (i) incorporated within one of the fifty (50) U.S. states, the District of Columbia, or any of the United States possessions or territories or organized, or (ii) otherwise constituted under the laws of a state of the United States of America, the District of Columbia or any of its possessions or territories (including a federal, state, or local government of the United States, or a political subdivision thereof, and unincorporated organizations based in the United States), or
3. An entity or organization that has a bona fide presence in the United States of America or any of its possessions or territories.
WHOIS / ID Protection
This service in not available for .US domain names.
Registrant Requirements
There is a requirement for the registrant (person or organization) to be established within the European Union.
Registration Period
The registration period for .EU domain names is 1 year, which applies also for their renewal.
Domain Renewal
Renewal requests will be accepted by the date of expiration (e.g. September 14th, 2008) or by the 20th of the month of expiration,
in cases when the date of expiration is after that date (e.g. September 25th, 2008).
Example: If the name expires on Sept 14th, 2008, then a renewal request must be received by Sept 14th, 2008. If a name expires on September 25th, 2008,
the renewal request must be received prior to September 20th, 2008.
WHOIS Management
Once the domain has been registered with certain WHOIS information, the information can not be edited.
However, minimal corrections are possible as an exception. Such requests must be sent to our support team via the ticketing system
available in the Help Center of the web hosting Control Panel. One should have in mind that the registrant's personal or company name
can not be modified because such changes are considered as 'formal transfer'. In order to execute transfer of the domain ownership,
the registrant must contact directly the EURid registry using the information on their webpage.
Example: If a domain is registered to "John Smith" and the registrant wishes to change the address this is not a problem.
However, if he/she wishes to change the registrant to "Peter Gibson", this is considered as transfer and the registrant must contact
the .EU registry EURID for assistance.

WHOIS / Contact Information

- In good standing with the licensing authority.
A standard .PRO registration involves a three-step verification process:

Registration Requirements
As per registry policy, the SLD part of the domain (i.e. the part of the domain before .CO.ZA) can contain up to 30 characters in total.
Registration Requirements
In order to run a .MOBI site you need to meet several requirements, enforced by the .MOBI registry, aimed at facilitating the access to your pages through a mobile device.
- XHTML Mobile Profile - All pages in your .MOBI site must be encoded in XHTML-MP (Mobile Profile). This is required since many mobile devices still have problems connecting to a normally formatted web page. In case your website does not have a user agent recognition, you should at least direct the visitors to an XHTML-MP encoded page, telling them what device is needed to access your website.
- Second-Level Domain Site - All .MOBI websites must respond to an HTTP request to your web address without the "www" part (e.g. to my-site.mobi instead of to www.my-site.mobi). Researches show that a vast majority of the mobile Internet users find it particularly troublesome typing "www" each time they need to access a certain domain name, especially if their device is equipped with a numeric keypad.
- Use of Frames - You are not allowed to use framed redirections on your .MOBI website. Instead, all redirections should be done by HTTP 3XX (301, 302, 304, 307). You can easily make these redirects via an .htaccess file.
- URIs for Country Specific Sites – This is a recommendation rather than a requirement. If you wish to offer services to the markets of different countries, you should use the country identifier TLD as a third-level domain identifier and thus set up separate country-specific web addresses, i.e. jp.my-site.mobi, uk.my-site.mobi.
Registration Requirements
.COM.AU domain names can be registered only for a 2-year period.
